Based on a good weather forecast we posted details of an ad hoc Field Trip to Coumshingaun Lake in the Comeragh Mountains. Initially looked like there were four of us but ended up with just Kieran and John. The sunrise this morning was due about 8.40am which makes it very realistic to be up to the lake for sunrise. It meant getting up about 6.00am and meeting at Kilclooney Wood for 7.00am.
We were up at the lake within the hour and figured that the sun would probably be obscured by the southern ridge. This is due to the late sunrise at this time of year. For most of the year the sun shines directly into the lake and lights up the 1,000 foot cliffs all around at sunrise. Being at the lake early gave us the opportunity to walk in to the back of the lake and take some photographs from the lake shore of the fantastic colors in this mornings sky.
We then climbed up to the large boulders behind the lake to get some photographs overlooking the lake. The shot of Kieran standing on the ledge is much easier when you have someone else to take the shot. The ten second self timer is not enough to get in position for this shot. It is claimed that Crotty the Highwayman and Lacendarra the Hermit is believed to have lived up at these rocks at one stage in the distant past.
Back down to the lake for some more photographs of Coumshingaun itself. The wind was very strong and generated some wavelets from time to time.
We also stopped at the smaller lake on the way out for a few more shots. Coumshingaun is always worth a visit but do wear good footwear and be prepared for adverse weather. Hopefully we will get a bigger group for the next outing there.

As 2014 draws to a close we can look back on a very active and successful year in Déise Camera Club. The highlight for the year was the influx of several new members. We have a very full schedule for 2015 and look forward to many photographic adventures in the year ahead. The schedule below gives details of the club meetings planned for 2015. There will be additional events such as day trips and competitions. Watch this space over Christmas as we will probably arrange some field trips at short notice weather permitting.
